Prime Waste Solutions (PWS) Pampanga and Prime Infra Foundation held a cleanup drive on August 1, in Barangay Planas, Porac, Pampanga, demonstrating their commitment to responsible waste management.

A total of 129 volunteers joined the cleanup including representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-MENRO), PWS Pampanga, Prime Infra Foundation, Barangay Planas Council, Planas National High School, and members of the community.

According to DENR-MENRO, about 1,000 kilograms of waste were collected from the cleanup activity, which focused on clearing the creek near both the barangay hall and the high school.

Prime Infra Foundation Programs and Operations Head Bernadette Tan said that cleanups are commonly a challenge for communities, especially after every typhoon.

Barangay Planas Captain Alfer Nacu cited that conducting cleanup drives helps maintain the cleanliness of the community, which is necessary especially during rainy periods when dengue fever tends to spread.

He also thanked PWS Pampanga, along with residents, teachers, students, and barangay representatives who participated in the activity, expressing hope that such initiative will continue.

“Sana tuloy-tuloy pa ‘yung mga joint cleanup drive natin na ito para mapanatili nating malinis ang ating barangay,” Nacu said.

Meanwhile, Engr. Francis Hernandez from the DENR-MENRO in Porac said that proper waste disposal is a basic obligation of every individual, and highlighted the importance of “segregation at source” in reducing the volume of waste in disposal facilities.

“Thank you so much po sa Prime Waste Solutions. Mga ganyang sector po o private company ang hinahanap namin — mga partner natumutulong sa amin sa gawain para maproteksyunan ang ating environment. Thank you very much po sa inyong mga initiative na katuladnitong cleanup drive,” Hernandez added.

PWS Pampanga and the Foundation also turned over cleanup tools and waterproof boots to DENR-MENRO and local government of Planas to support future initiatives.

PWS Pampanga, a waste management unit of Prime Infra, operates the only large-scale materials recovery facility in Luzon, committed to maximizing resource recovery through sorting, segregation, and recycling.
