The Wawa Bulk Water Supply project is an infrastructure flagship project of the Philippine government intended to address the water crisis in Metro Manila and the province of Rizal. It involves the construction of two water supply infrastructures that will provide Manila Water Company (MWC) 80 million liters (MLD) in its first phase to be completed by 2022, and eventually deliver the full 518 MLD in its second phase by the end of 2025.
This project is also expected to address problems of flooding in downstream communities due to typhoons, helping protect the eastern part of Metro Manila and lower areas in the province of Rizal, Marikina, and Pasig.
As of March 2022, WawaJVCo has obtained the approval of the Dumagat/Remontado Indigenous People of Antipolo and Montalban for the second phase of the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project, the Upper Wawa Dam. This is the fourth and final Memorandum of Agreement in the Free and Prior, Informed Consent (FPIC) Process for the project. The event was supervised by the FPIC Team and attended by representatives of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) offices. The successful MOA signing is a manifestation of the IP’s support for nation building as we address the growing concern of water scarcity in Metro Manila and the nearby province of Rizal.
