Another milestone for the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project was crossed following the breakthrough of a 1-kilometer tunnel for the pumping station capable of delivering 518 million liters per day of raw water.
The tunnel breakthrough underscores the collective synergy of Prime Infra, WawaJVCo and Prime Metro BMD Corporation (PrimeBMD) to work towards ensuring sustainable water supply for Metro Manila and Rizal.
Present during the breakthrough ceremony were Prime Infra Vice Chairman Martin O’Neil, President and CEO Guillaume Lucci, Chief Financial Officer Sandy Alipio, Chief Administrative Officer Minerva Matibag, Manila Water Company Chief Regulatory Officer Donato Almeda, WawaJVCo President Melvin John Tan, and PrimeBMD President and CEO Sebastian Lacson.
The Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project, an infrastructure flagship project of the government, is designed to deliver at least 518 MLD, which can provide water supply to over 500,000 households in the East Zone concession area.
The project’s Phase 1 started commercial operations in October 2022. Construction for the second phase or the Upper Wawa Dam is ongoing and targeted to be completed by 2025.
