Located in Pakil, Laguna, the Ahunan Pumped Storage facility is a 1400 Megawatt Pumped Storage Hydro Electric Power Plant (PS-HEPP) that’s being developed for both ancillary service and the power supply markets. Once operational, it will be able to supply 10 to 12 hours worth of 1,200MW net generation for around 2 million households and can help reduce the use of coal by about 2.4M tons a year. The main purpose of the PS-HEPP is to take excess energy from during Off-Peak time and shift the energy to Peak demand. The PS-HEPP is a form of Energy Storage System (BESS) which has an economic life of more than 50 years unlike chemical batteries which last 10 to 20 years.
Solar Philippines Tarlac Corporation (SPTC) is a 150MWDC Solar PV farm contracted under a 20-year Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved Power Supply Agreement (PSA). Energized in 2019, it has currently commissioned 100 Megawatts DC which generates a peak generation of 75AC. At 75 Megawatts, it is capable of providing power for daytime requirements for around 94,000 households (using 300kwh peak). Aside from providing clean energy, this project also helps save close to 65,000 tons of coal per year.
